C64 and Amiga 2000

Ok, so I've been away for a very very long time. A very very very very very long time. In fact, it's been so long I don't even know how long it's been. It's just been a very very very very... ok.. I'll stop..

I've just about killed over last night. I was at my friend Jeremy's house and our buddy Beno (we are sort of like a trio) came by and said he had a gift for me. So... I was like, "You don't have to give me anything." but he was like "I know.. but you're really going to like this." He gave me a fully working C64, 1541 FDD, and a Commodore monitor. I was so flipping out. OMG.... but it gets better. He then handed me an Amiga 2000...... YES... A FREAKING AMIGA 2000.... OMG....

Anyways, I was able to hook up the C64 tonight and everything works. I have an issue with the monitor having a buzz in the sound and the picture will only display in B&W, but everything works. Now I just need to find more disks and see if I can port over all my C64 disk images to 5 1/4 floppies.

I don't have any hook ups for the Amiga 2000. The RGB video is outputted through a DB23 and I need to find a converter or something so I can output it to a DB15 (standard RGB/VGA). Once this is done, I shouldn't have any trouble if it's working... but I haven't looked into it yet. Oh.. and I haven't opened up the case yet but I think there is a Video Toaster in it. If this is so, then I have a video production computer. I'll break into it sometime today.

Anyways... WOW...

I haven't done anything with the game I'm making yet. Been too busy and haven't found any time to do any of my projects. If I get back into this, I'll keep everyone up dated (plus I've created 20% of the sound track already).

As of games, I'm currently paying Mechwarrior 4. I missed out on it when it was released... I really like it alot. I wonder why they gave up on this intellectual propriety.

Game I'm Making

Ok... Some of you know that I'm currently working on a game using Multimedia Fusion 2. I'm still working on the sound track and I only have the title screen finished (working title screen anyways). I have a lot of good ideas but only going to use a few of them in my first game release. I've went back to play a lot of traditional games and I've been judging on game elements that work and don't work.

The game I'm making is a platformer and I don't mean to be so vague but everything I'm working on is currently top secret. However, at the top is the working title screen with the working title. I'm going to do my best to make this a quality release freeware game and hope to have my own site up for other game projects I'm wroking on. There will be a youtube video I'll make introducing the game and advertising my web site... but don't hold your breath just yet since I'm planning to release this game this winter (if possible)...

Nevertheless, keep an eye here and/or on my Myspace page and my YouTube channel.

Great Original Free Games

I'm back, and I have a few really good games to post about. These have actually been around for a few years now and unless you've been hiding under a rock, I'd assume that you've already played them. If not, then if there is anything that you should download and play.. it's these.

Within A Deep Forest

Download Game Here

This is perhaps one of the best freeware games that I've played in a long time. I believe that I found out about it sometime in 2006 but I'm still playing it to this day (yes, it's that good). It's really hard to run across a gem like this so when you do it really can set you an awe.

You play a ball... yep... thats right... a ball... You are suppose to save the world... yep... the world.. However, you have to get all your powers first (different types of ball powers) and you'll have to find them in many hidden places. Kinda like Metroid and just about as big too.

The music to this game is awesome. Very atmospheric and worthy of a buyable soundtrack. If you don't play this game, you are really missing out on a great gaming experience. Plus this game has no violence, no blood, no bad language.... If you got kids who like to play games, then have them try this one out.

Red Hero

Download Game Here

Another ball game but very different than 'Within A Deep Forest'. The game is a little more like an Arcade style game. A really fun game.

You are a ball that goes around collecting a bunch of blue and black balls (dark energy).... and I can't tell you why because it will ruin the game for ya. This is another classic game I've added to my favorite freeware games list.

Seiklus

Download Game Here

This is perhaps the most popular freeware game on the net.

You play a guy who fell from heaven and you are trying to get back. You have to collect all the little floating ball objects to open up the gates and get back. This is a big non-voilent exploration game. Most people I know that play freeware games have played this one and believe it's the best out there. I say it ties with 'Within A Deep Forest'.

If you like Seiklus, then you have to try these Seiklus inspired games...

TR2N: Update

Had to bump in the middle of my freeware topic to get people updated on some TRON News.

Ok.. First off I just want to say "Thank You" once again to TronFAQ for doing one damn good job on scouting out for information and getting input from the right people.

For the best information online concerning 'TR2N' (a.k.a. Tron 2 Movie), go to his blog here: TronFAQ's Blog

According to 'Ain't It Cool News', the original director of TRON (Steven Lisberger) is working on TR2N as a producer. This was mentioned before but due to "Jim Hill's" failure to provide vaild infromation about Lisberger not being any part of the project, many sort of caught on that it was bull.

To read the article, check it out here: Lisberger Is (and has always) been in

Ok... Will be back with more freeware stuff.

Games Worth Downloading: Bruce Lee II

INSTALLMENT #3

There are a few more remakes that I would like to share before going on to original games. Some of which made such an impact on computer gamers back in the day that once something ignites that memory, it's as if the spirit of that computer is calling the gamer back.

The Commodore 64 was a marvel during it's time. Best selling computer ever made and affordable. It was clear proof that computers were ahead of consoles in terms of technology and that is still true today.

Before all the PS3/Xbox fanboys start emailing me with bitchy attitudes, I will say that console gaming is number one in the industry. Mainly because of several factors. One being that it's cheap. You don't have to spend $3k+ to build an awesome game platform. You don't have to spend a lot of time learning about how to make your games work best for your computer.... but the down side to this all is that you are so very limited to what you can do with your games. Modding is sort of new to these platforms and no one is interested in making sufficient tools where you can develop your own models or textures for those systems. Also, a Gforce 9800 GTX can run circles around a PS3.... but, alas, retail games are becoming more scarce for the PC die-hards like myself.

Sorry.. had to get that one out of the way. Back to the C64.

ANYWAYS.... There are a countless number of Commodore 64 games that were made and there are a lot of those games that really stood out. One of the ultra popular games was Bruce Lee. A game that never had a sequel till now.

Bruce Lee 2

Download Game From Here

Thanks to Trevor Storey for doing what many don't and making a nice sequel to such an awesome game (with out making too many changes). My only beef with this game is that the screen play field is way too large and the characters look super tiny on the screen than what we are use to, however despite that we have here a worthy sequel.

The game play is still the same and the graphics are very reminiscent to the beloved C64 original. Changes are most noticeable with the enemies where both the green sumo and the ninja throw shurikens this time around. They also seem to be following paths instead of chasing the character. This sort of sucks because it chops down on the comedy (big green sumo lands on top of skinny ninja and crushes him from the first game).

The game is a challenge and it plays well. If you are a fan of the C64 hit "Bruce Lee" then you really should check this game out. Also, I might do a Bruce Lee 3 once I get use to using Multimedia Fusion 2 (I'll talk about that more later on).

I'll be back with some more stuff... :)

Games Worth Downloading: ANT ATTACK

INSTALLMENT #2

Since being a C64 guy in the States, I was able to really enjoy a lot of European computer games (more so with the Amiga 500) and that was part of the amazing culture that came with selective computer gaming. However over the years I have came to realize that all I got was a small taste. There was a world of awesome computer gaming going on that didn't make it to main stream America. Most of which were good titles only found on the Sinclare Spectrum. Something that I have read a lot about recently. So, there have been a great deal that I've missed out on but I'm just about to experience it for the first time due to the power of computer emulation. Something that I think that everyone should try out.

ANT ATTACK

DOWNLOAD HERE

I know very little about the original game. From what I've seen, it was a 3D game in the same way Crystal Castles and Load Runner's Rescue were. This version of the game is a pure 3D remake in both third and first perspective. The map isn't anything to write home about but if you have played the original game, then it makes sense.

The game is simple. Jump into the map, find your friend (who looks like he/she is passed out drunk) and then find the exit that you came in. Sounds easy? Well... no... The Ants in the map will kick your ass and they will catch up to you. They are fast little bastards and you can't out run them.

The map has block structures that you can jump on. This is a must if you need to get in a safe place to bomb some ants. Your passed out friend will follow you like a lost little puppy everywhere you go once you find him/her, so don't worry about about that ungrateful freeloader.

Weapons you say? Well... Only one, really. You have about 20 grenades to kill the ants with. It's a good thing that you don't have a gun because the game would be way to easy that way. Just make sure that you are up high before you decided to make 'ant soup'. If you try to throw a grenade while being chased, the ants will kick them back at you and you'll most likely blow yourself up.

This is a really an enjoyable game and if you have the time, I suggest you check it out. I'm going to see if I can find the original game and give it a go... :)

Stay tuned for more.....
